The piece I’ve been working on for Not Soft is a collection of photos of my friends, this includes POC women, men, non-binary, queer people, called “My Friends Are Strong/ Mis Amigxs son Fuertes”. My friends, to me, are the most Not Soft thing out there, as most women and queer people are seen to be or “should” be soft/delicate/vulnerable people, I disagree with this statement, I believe that this is a very white influenced message and I believe often times WOC and QPOC don’t have the choice to be fragile or soft or we will be stepped on, we don’t have the choice to have pale skin or to be vulnerable, we are taught to be heard.
